Fraudulent Flippo: “Nevada’s Santos Moment”
As David Flippo’s campaign flails, national outlets continue to dig into his George Santos-like rap sheet. From his carpetbagging and being fired four times to refusing to file his personal financial disclosures to his stolen valor claims, there is nothing Fraudulent Flippo won’t lie about. Key points:
- The Cook Political Report recently moved the district from “solid” to merely “likely” Republican, and the only three public polls of the race show Benitez-Thompson within the margin of error—proof that the district is feeling some Trump fatigue.
- And Flippo, a perceived carpetbagger from Las Vegas, is an especially flawed candidate.
- It doesn’t help that he’s at odds with nearly every elected official in Nevada on one of the state’s most contentious local issues, arguing in favor of reopening Yucca Mountain to nuclear waste storage.
- Questions about Flippo’s credentials and finances are dragging down his campaign, as well.
- The Air Force veteran has twice misrepresented his service, claiming to have won a Bronze Star “for valor” when he actually received the more common Bronze Star “for service.”

- Flippo has also repeatedly failed to file required financial disclosure forms that would provide insight into his income and how he was able to loan his campaign $1.6 million.
- (His campaign released handwritten financial disclosures to local press two weeks ago, but they haven’t yet been filed with the House clerk. The campaign’s treasurer, Thomas Datwyler, did not respond to questions about whether they will be.)
